Looking for the bleeding edge supplemental technology for optimizing your brain?
When we are most alive, we are alert, focused, present. We have abundant energy to really think… to perform.
The same way we supplement our bodies with vitamins and superfoods to stay healthy. Our minds benefit from the right nutrients to aid in achieving its highest potential.
That’s why I decided to put together this Alpha Brain review. I’ve tried the best and most popular brain supplements, or “nootropics” as they’re often called. And Alpha Brain is top of the chain.
It’s the most well-researched cognitive enhancing supplement out there. Alpha Brain has been around for several years and continues to grow in popularity.
A Brief History of Alpha Brain
Long before I decided to do this Alpha Brain review, I learned about nootropics from the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast.
There’s that word again, nootropics. What does it mean?
Essentially nootropics are nutrients that improve cognitive function. Including memory, intelligence, motivation, attention, flow state, and concentration.
Nootropics are also known as memory enhancers, smart drugs, cognitive-enhancers, neuroenhancers or cerebral enhancers.
Alpha Brain is a tried and tested blend of earth-grown vitamins and minerals for creating the perfect environment for peak mental performance.
Personally for me, it’s a way to plug nutritional holes and optimize mental health and performance. Which is the main reason I decided try it and do this Alpha Brain review.
What is in Alpha Brain and who makes it?
Alpha Brain is a fully balanced nootropic made by Onnit.
Onnit’s mission is to inspire peak performance through unique products and actionable information. They sell functional workout equipment and a range of other supplements. Also made from earth-grown nutrients.
Alpha Brain merges cutting-edge science with the best natural nutrients.
Earth Grown Ingredients
As part of any complete Alpha Brain review, it’s only right to look at the ingredients. Here is what you’ll find in each capsule.
- Huperzine A: Acetylcholinesterase inhibitor extracted from club moss. Its action serves to stop excitation of a nerve after transmission of an impulse
- Alpha GPC: Raw source of acetylcholine, associated with sharpness, mental speed. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter released by nerves. It is essential for communication between the nerves and muscles
- Vinpocetine: Helps bring oxygen and nutrients to the brain via vasodilation. Vasodilation is the dilatation of blood vessels, which decreases blood pressure
- Phosphatidylserine: Essential lipid compound very abundant in brain cell membranes.
- AC-11®: Powerful DNA repair antioxidant.
- Pterostilbene: Powerful micronutrient / antioxidant.
- Bacopa: Traditional Ayurvedic brain-enhancing nutrient.
- L-Tyrosine: Amino acid important to the production of Dopamine.
- L-Theanine: Amino acid that has similarities to GABA. Gamma-Aminobutyric acid is the primary neurotransmitter in the brain. Meaning it sends a signal to other cells that subdues them. This chemical messenger is known to aid in relaxation and sleep
- Oat Straw (20:1): Natural anti-stress nutrient, helps balance the formula and create calm focus.
- Vitamin B-6: Catalyst in effective utilization of many nutrients.
The science behind Alpha Brain: First Clinical Trial
In the USA, the supplement industry is infamously unregulated. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check out the documentary Bigger, Faster, Stronger. It will open your eyes to a world of hyped up marketing and con men.
With that in mind, it’s very impressive to see a first of its kind study carried out for Alpha Brain.
The clinical trial not only intended to prove the efficacy of Alpha Brain. But also to pioneer research methods for the testing of supplements in general.
The first independent trial was named “A Proof of Concept Study for a Randomized Double-Blind, Placebo Controlled, Parallel Group, Efficacy Study of Alpha BRAIN™ Administered Orally”.
Rolls off the tongue doesn’t it.
It was carried out by the Boston Center for Memory. It was presented at the annual International Neuropsychological Society meeting in Seattle in February 2014.
Second Larger Clinical Trial (December 2014)
On December 11th 2014, Onnit published the overwhelmingly positive results of their most recent clinical trial. Conducted with a much larger study group than the first trial.
Now that you have a reasonably good picture of what this product is all about. On to my own Alpha Brain review!
Alpha Brain Review Verdict: What I Didn’t Like
The ingredients and science behind this nootropic makes sense to me. I’m no neuroscientist, but on paper it’s logical.
Previously Alpha Brain was branded differently. White bottle with a navy and green label.
And the pills came in green and yellow pills with artificial coloring, which I’m never a big fan of. The new pills come in what Onnit are calling their “Naked Capsules”, free from colorings and dyes. Problem solved
I didn’t experience any lucid dreaming. A side effect reported by many. Which is a pity because it sounds very cool.
Alpha Brain Review Verdict: What I Did Like
I can say I experienced strong positive effects. Particularly on the third day of my fifteen day trial run for this Alpha Brain review.
I was completely worn out after travelling, but felt surprisingly lucid while working. I took two pills a day consistently.
I was slightly fresher in the morning mentally. I felt my productive working time was increased. Definitely a benefit I was hoping for.
I’m very impressed, but Alpha Brain isn’t a miracle pill. With that in mind though, I only tracked 15 days of taking it. And apparently the effect increases over time as neuro-pathways start to open.
So far while taking Alpha Brain I’ve experienced no negative side effects.
Where Can You buy Alpha Brain?
Alpha Brain is available directly from Onnit.com. You can buy on Amazon.com, and a couple of European based distributors, like Powerful.ie, supply it too. For my Alpha Brain review I purchased from Onnit.
Ordering directly from the official creators Onnit is the best way to go. You get a full money back guarantee if you’re not happy with it. And you don’t even have to return the bottle.
If you decide you want a refund, the only thing to pay for is shipping. Apart from that, it’s risk free to try Alpha Brain.
Alpha Brain Review: Final Verdict
I hope the info in my Alpha Brain review will be useful. It’s a good product, and Onnit are legit.
I feel their heart is in the right place. In that they’re putting put out the best quality products they can.
The ingredients and science check out as I’ve mentioned. And Onnit have put their money where their mouth is by conducting two separate independently conducted clinical trials.
It was fun doing this Alpha Brain review too. It’s fascinating to try new things out and see what our bodies will experience. If you’re interested in reviews from several other sources, check out that link.
To compliment my own Alpha Brain review, you can see a mix of other reviews from the official site. There are actually good and bad ones up there. Not just all good as you usually see on manufacturer’s websites.
